EKEDC Urges Corporate Customers to Submit Tax Identification Details for Billing Compliance

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has urged all corporate and MD electricity customers to submit valid tax identification details by February 28, 2026, so that invoices can comply with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025), the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Nigeria Tax Act (2025) came into effect on January 1, 2026 and imposes new requirements on business documentation, including electricity invoices.

Under the law, commercial invoices such as bills issued to corporate customers must include at least one official identification number such as a Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, or National Identification Number (NIN).

In its official communication, EKEDC instructed corporate customers to submit the required identification information along with their name, email and phone number through the online form at customertax-id.ekedp.com by the February 28, 2026 deadline.

The company warned that invoices issued without the required tax identification details will be deemed invalid under the Tax Act.

It noted that failure to provide valid information by the deadline could prevent the generation of electricity bills and might result in suspension of services after that date.

For customers who do not yet have a TIN, EKEDC advised them to register for a Tax Identification Number via the Federal Government’s TIN portal at tin.jtb.gov.ng, or to verify whether an existing TIN is correct and active.

EKEDC concluded its statement by expressing appreciation for the cooperation of its customers in ensuring compliance with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025).

The submission requirement aligns EKEDC with broader tax compliance reforms under the new tax regime in Nigeria, which aims to strengthen revenue collection and ensure formal identification of business entities.

For corporate and MD electricity customers, meeting the documentation requirements may be necessary to avoid billing disruptions and service suspension
