Tinubu Tells Opposition: ‘Elections Are Not Conducted on Social Media’

President Bola Tinubu has stated that “elections are not conducted on social media platforms”, telling opposition elements and party supporters that Nigerians, not online commentary, determine electoral outcomes.

The comment came amid ongoing public discussion about political engagement and electoral credibility in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Tinubu made the statement during a political gathering in Abuja, where he also addressed issues of internal party unity.

The remark was part of a broader appeal by the President to stakeholders to prioritise direct voter engagement and respect the democratic process, rather than relying on narratives circulated on social media.

Mr Tinubu told opposition elements and party faithful that “elections are not conducted on social media platforms” and emphasised that “Nigerians conduct elections.”

He also urged the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to reconcile with Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State to foster unity in the state.

In addition to his remarks on elections, the President has called on governors, federal lawmakers and party leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consolidate economic reforms and intensify engagement at the grassroots level.

Mr Tinubu’s comments underscore the official position that electoral outcomes are determined by citizens casting ballots on election day, aligning with constitutional principles of electoral participation.

His appeal for unity and reconciliation among party leaders reflects efforts to strengthen political cohesion within the APC and among allied actors.
