The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Friday announced the commencement of a continuous electronic membership registration drive beginning March 1, 2026, covering all 8,809 electoral wards nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political parties in Nigeria maintain membership registers for internal administration and compliance with electoral regulations.
APGA previously automated its membership registration process in June 2024, a step the party said was aimed at improving efficiency and inclusivity.
Updating and expanding membership records is a key preparatory exercise ahead of national elections.
The 2027 general elections, scheduled for early next year, include presidential, National Assembly, gubernatorial, and state assembly contests. Parties routinely update membership databases as part of strategy and compliance with electoral laws governing party structures and primaries.
At a press briefing in Awka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, said the exercise will take place simultaneously in all 8,809 electoral wards across Nigeria starting March 1.
He described the initiative as reflecting APGA’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in party administration.
Opara noted that the electronic registration is open to all interested Nigerians. Prospective members must present a valid voter’s card and two passport photographs to complete the process.
He explained that registration can be completed online via the party’s official website or through a designated WhatsApp number. In-person registration is also available at designated ward offices where forms can be obtained.
According to the party’s statement, new registrants will receive a temporary membership slip upon completion of the process, followed by issuance of a permanent membership card.
Existing members who have already registered electronically are not required to re-register, but the party advised members who have yet to upload passport photographs to update their records through the online platforms provided.
The nationwide e-registration drive will expand APGA’s official membership database ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A comprehensive and updated membership register can support internal party planning, candidate selection, and compliance with electoral regulations.
For party officials, the expanded database may strengthen organisational capacity and help in mobilising support across Nigeria’s diverse regions.
The use of electronic platforms aims to streamline registration and integration of member data.
The exercise also allows eligible Nigerians across all wards to join the party through modern digital processes, which the party said promotes inclusivity and efficient administration.
