The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Saturday warned that flights from Nigerian airports to destinations in the Middle East have been cancelled or delayed due to ongoing airspace closures in the region.
The Middle East is a key aviation corridor linking Africa, Europe, and Asia. Recent airspace restrictions by several countries in the region have disrupted international flight operations, affecting airlines that operate out of Nigerian airports.
Airspace closures and route suspensions can arise from safety decisions by regional civil aviation authorities amid security developments or logistical constraints.
In an official statement issued on its verified social media platform, FAAN said the current situation in parts of the Middle East is affecting flight schedules to and from that region.
The agency noted that flights scheduled to destinations served by carriers such as Emirates and Qatar Airways have been either cancelled or delayed as a result of the airspace restrictions.
FAAN advised affected passengers to contact their respective airlines directly for updated information on flight status, rebooking options, and further guidance on travel arrangements.
The authority said it is monitoring the situation in collaboration with relevant aviation regulators and airline operators and will provide updates as needed.
FAAN also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to travellers and thanked the travelling public for their understanding and cooperation as the disruptions persist.
The disruptions are affecting passengers planning travel to Middle Eastern cities through international airlines based in the region.
Flight cancellations and delays may impose additional costs and logistical challenges for travellers after airline schedules change with little notice.
For airlines serving Middle East routes from Nigeria, the airspace closures may require rescheduling flight operations, reallocating aircraft, or communicating changes to passengers to manage bookings and customer service needs effectively.
For airports under FAAN’s jurisdiction, the advisory highlights the importance of supporting passengers with accurate information and ensuring that their travel arrangements reflect current airline instructions and government travel advisories.
FAAN’s alert underscores ongoing disruptions to international flight operations between Nigeria and the Middle East due to regional airspace closures.
Travellers affected by these delays and cancellations are urged to remain in contact with their airlines for the most up‑to‑date information on flight schedules and rebooking assistance as circumstances evolve.
