The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially launched its INEC recruitment 2026 exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across several departments as part of efforts to strengthen the commission’s workforce. According to a recruitment notice published on the commission’s official website, the online application portal became accessible on Monday, July 20, and will remain open until Monday, July 27.
The commission said the recruitment exercise is aimed at boosting operational capacity in critical areas, including electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management, to enhance the delivery of its constitutional responsibilities. Applicants are required to complete the application process online by creating an account on the recruitment portal, filling in the required information and uploading all necessary supporting documents.
INEC stressed that the exercise is completely free, warning applicants against submitting false information or forged credentials. It cautioned that any candidate found presenting fraudulent documents would be disqualified and may face prosecution.
The INEC recruitment 2026 exercise covers vacancies under three major categories. Available positions include: Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT officer, Engineer, Quantity Surveyor. Candidates applying for these roles must possess a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Some positions may also require a master’s degree from a recognised institution.
Applicants are expected to possess relevant professional certifications where applicable, including ICAN, ANAN, NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS or CPN, alongside at least two years of post-qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and strong analytical, communication and ICT skills.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences. They are also required to present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate and demonstrate competence in data management, record-keeping and the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Candidates interested in this category must possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. Applicants should also demonstrate knowledge of computer operations, data management, communication and organisational skills.
INEC outlined several conditions prospective applicants must satisfy before submitting an application.
Applicants must: present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the Chairman or Secretary of their Local Government Area, be medically certified as physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer, not be older than 35 years at the time of application, possess good character and have no criminal conviction, be willing to work in any part of Nigeria, demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
Interested candidates are advised to complete the INEC recruitment 2026 application through the commission’s recruitment portal by following these steps:
- Visit the official INEC recruitment portal.
- Create an applicant account using a valid email address, personal details and National Identification Number (NIN).
- Verify the registered email address.
- Log in and choose the preferred cadre and available vacancy.
- Upload all required documents, including a passport photograph, birth certificate or age declaration, O’Level result, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC certificate where applicable.
- Carefully review the application before submitting it online.
The commission advised applicants to select their preferred position carefully, noting that submitted applications cannot be edited or changed after submission. INEC added that only candidates who are successfully shortlisted after the application stage will be invited to participate in the next phase of the recruitment process.
