President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Senator Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.
The announcement was made on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the public presentation of Senator Jonah Jang’s autobiography and activities marking the elder statesman’s 80th birthday in Jos, Plateau State. Delivering the President’s goodwill message, Shettima revealed the appointment before a distinguished audience gathered to celebrate the former governor’s lifelong contributions to Nigeria.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President,” the Vice President said. The announcement was greeted with loud applause as guests rose to congratulate members of the Jang family.
Although Shettima did not specify the exact responsibilities or portfolio attached to Yakubu Jang’s appointment, he said the President’s decision reflected confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to national development through public service.
The ceremony attracted an array of prominent personalities from across the country, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, serving and former governors, federal ministers, lawmakers, traditional rulers, senior military officers, diplomats and religious leaders. The gathering also served as a tribute to Senator Jonah Jang’s decades of service in both the military and political spheres.
Political leaders from different parties honoured the former Plateau governor for his contributions to national development throughout his public career.
Speakers at the event praised Jang’s service as a Nigerian Air Force officer, Military Administrator of Benue State, two-term Governor of Plateau State and former senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District. The celebration coincided with the unveiling of his autobiography titled From Soldiering to Politics: Here I Stand, a book chronicling his military background, political journey and experiences in public service.
In separate goodwill messages, Vice President Shettima and former President Goodluck Jonathan described Senator Jang as a patriot whose commitment to service, sacrifice and national unity had left a lasting impact on Nigeria. They commended his leadership, faith and dedication, describing him as a bridge-builder whose life continues to inspire younger generations.
