A woman, Sandra Okpara, has recovered N1.64m after a mistaken transfer sent the money to an account linked to Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International.
Okpara, a single mother of two, had appealed for help on social media after discovering that she had mistakenly transferred N1,640,200 to the church.
The money, according to her, belonged to people she was expected to pay, prompting her to seek assistance in tracing and recovering the funds.
“This money is not my money. I cannot do offering of 1,640,200. Please help me trace the accounts,” she said in a video shared on social media on Friday.
Okpara explained that she had initially transferred N1,000 as an offering before attempting to send more than N1.6m to a Zenith Bank account.
She said she only realised the error after checking the transfer receipt and discovering that the money had gone to the wrong account.
“My hand just clicked that one. Before God and man, it was erroneous,” she said.
The woman said she first contacted Zenith Bank and later approached Moniepoint in an effort to reverse the transaction.
However, she said the recovery process became difficult after Moniepoint informed her that a court order was required.
“I went to Moniepoint; they lodged the complaint, but they were asking for a court order. I don’t know how to contact them. I went to Pastor Jerry’s online prayer platform,” she said.
Okpara’s public appeal later gained attention online, bringing the mistaken transfer to the attention of Streams of Joy International.
The church subsequently contacted her regarding the money.
In a video released on Saturday, Okpara confirmed that the funds had been returned to her.
“My money has been refunded by the church. Thank you to NSSPD, and Pastor Jerry Eze,” she said.
The recovery brings an end to the woman’s attempt to retrieve the N1.64m, which she said was not her personal money and was intended for payments to other people.
