The LASEMA truck incidents that disrupted traffic on Ikorodu Road and National-Ashade have been cleared, restoring normal vehicular movement in the affected areas.
The two separate incidents occurred on Sunday and involved heavy-duty trucks that obstructed major portions of the roads.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said its response teams worked with other agencies to manage traffic and remove the affected vehicles.
According to LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Cobra Response Team stationed at Onipanu was deployed at about 5:53 p.m. following a distress alert.
Responders arrived at Palm Grove inward Obanikoro and found a loaded mixer truck belonging to Ecocrete Construction Company lying across the Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, corridor.
The truck was involved in a lone accident, while the driver reportedly fled the scene.
Preliminary assessment indicated that reckless driving and overspeeding might have contributed to the incident.
LASEMA worked with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police Force to secure the area, control traffic and begin recovery operations.
A separate incident occurred at about 11:21 p.m. at National-Ashade.
LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa responded to the distress call and found a MACK truck carrying two 20-foot containers.
The truck reportedly suffered a tyre burst while attempting a U-turn, causing it to tilt and obstruct about 80 per cent of the roadway.
Responders secured the area and diverted traffic to minimise the risk of a secondary accident while awaiting heavy-duty recovery equipment.
Using a private crane, two forklifts, LASEMA’s lowbed and a private tow truck, the containers were recovered and loaded onto the agency’s lowbed.
The MACK truck was subsequently towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi.
The affected road was eventually cleared and reopened to motorists.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that no death or injury was recorded in either of the LASEMA truck incidents.
He commended the agency’s Cobra and Eagle Response Teams and other collaborating agencies for their swift intervention.
According to him, the response helped prevent prolonged traffic congestion and possible secondary accidents.
The LASEMA permanent secretary urged operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles to maintain their vehicles properly, obey speed limits and comply with traffic regulations.
He also encouraged residents to report emergencies promptly through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines to enable faster response.
