Obi Reacts to Kwara Violence, Demands Urgent Security Measures

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the recent deadly attacks in Kwara State, describing the killings as tragic and urging decisive action to address the worsening insecurity affecting communities, according to a statement he posted on his official X account.

Obi expressed that he was “deeply saddened” by reports of the brutal killings in villages including Woro and Nuku, where gunmen attacked residents and many lives were lost.

He offered condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Kwara State, highlighting the human cost of the violence.

In his post, the former Anambra State governor underscored the need for decisive action by security authorities to restore peace and protect citizens from further attacks.

His remarks reflect growing concern from national figures over the security situation in parts of northern and central Nigeria.

Obi’s statement comes amid mounting pressure on the federal and state governments to intensify efforts against armed groups responsible for recent massacres and kidnappings.

The plea for action aligns with calls from other leaders and civil society stakeholders for a strengthened security response to persistent threats across vulnerable regions.

The attacks in Kwara have drawn national attention, with reports indicating that coordinated assaults on rural communities have resulted in significant loss of life and displacement.

State and federal security agencies have deployed forces to affected areas and launched operations intended to curb further violence, although challenges persist in reaching remote villages and restoring lasting stability.

Civil society groups and political leaders have emphasised that security threats, including terrorism, banditry and kidnappings, continue to disrupt lives and livelihoods, posing risks not only to rural populations but also to broader economic activity and investor confidence in affected regions.
