ADC Says Obi, Atiku and Amaechi Working Together Against Tinubu in 2027 Race

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that former presidential candidates Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and former Rotimi Amaechi are working together with the aim of preventing Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress from returning to power in the 2027 general election, the party said on Wednesday.

The statement was made by the ADC as it launched a new political movement ahead of the 2027 campaign season.

The ADC is a registered political party in Nigeria that has sought to position itself as an alternative to the two leading parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The 2027 general election cycle is already underway in terms of planning and political positioning.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate under the Labour Party, have both been prominent figures in Nigeria’s national politics and have recently been linked with the growth of the ADC’s profile.

Rotimi Amaechi is a former governor of Rivers State and a former federal minister. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the incumbent president of Nigeria, and the APC is the ruling party at the federal level.

According to the ADC, its leading presidential hopefuls; Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, are collaborating to build a shared political front ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party made the comments during the launch of 1ADC, a political movement described as intended to bring together its members across age groups and political backgrounds.

The ADC described the initiative as part of its preparations to challenge the APC in the next presidential race. The party did not provide detailed specifics on how the collaboration would be structured or whether a joint ticket has been agreed upon.

The announcement was made in Abuja and noted by the party as an early effort by opposition figures to consolidate support around a common platform ahead of the 2027 contest.

A statement by the ADC that key opposition figures are working together could influence political dynamics as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general election.

Opposition positioning and alignments often shape public debate and party strategies in Nigeria’s multi‑party system.

Key political actors and civil society groups may watch developments for indications of how the opposition could organise its campaign efforts against the ruling party.

Investors, business leaders and urban communities generally look to political clarity and stability when considering economic decisions linked to election outcomes.

Observers also note that public statements about opposition cooperation may encourage further discussions among other political parties about alliances or joint platforms ahead of formal campaign activities.
