The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has registered at least 277,000 new members in its ongoing electronic membership registration exercise, underscoring expanding party participation in the run‑up to the 2027 general elections.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq disclosed the figure on Monday, January 26, 2026, during a ceremony in Ilorin where he received Alhaji Muazu Bawa, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North Central zone, who was on a monitoring visit to assess the registration drive.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye, Kwara now leads other states in the North Central zone in the APC’s digital membership exercise.
The governor described the turnout as a reflection of growing public confidence in the APC‑led governments at both the state and federal levels.
AbdulRazaq tied the registration success to perceptions of effective governance, pointing to policies pursued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s state leadership. He attributed the rising membership numbers to “good governance and people‑oriented policies,” while acknowledging some challenges with network connectivity during the digital exercise.
The governor also urged the APC’s national leadership to consider extending the registration period to allow broader participation. He said the inclusion of the National Identification Number (NIN) requirement would help ensure greater authenticity and credibility in the party’s membership register.
Alhaji Muazu Bawa praised Kwara’s performance, describing it as “unprecedented” and a positive reflection of the party’s organisational strength in the region. He said Kwara’s high member turnout stood out during his monitoring tour. “What I have seen here is impressive, and it reflects the quality of leadership in the state,” Bawa said.
State APC Chairman Sunday Fagbemi and E‑Registration Coordinator Mubarak Bello briefed the visiting party chieftain on the exercise’s progress. Bello revealed that the membership count could rise toward 400,000 if the registration window is extended.
The APC’s nationwide electronic registration initiative aims to update and sanitise its membership database ahead of future elections. Ajibola Basiru, the APC national secretary, earlier projected that digital membership could reach 8–9 million nationwide within weeks of the exercise, as part of efforts to strengthen internal party organisation and data integrity.
The digital drive, which commenced across states earlier this month, requires party adherents to register using valid National Identification Numbers and voter credentials.
Party leadership says this approach will strengthen internal democracy and ensure robust grassroots engagement across Nigeria’s political landscape.
For urban residents, business leaders, and political stakeholders in Kwara and beyond, the surge in party registration signals heightened political mobilisation ahead of 2027.
Expanded membership could affect candidate selection, campaign dynamics, and the delivery of policies that influence economic and social outcomes in urban centres.
It may also shape how political parties strategise voter outreach and engagement in densely populated states
The APC’s registration of 277,000 new members in Kwara marks a significant milestone in the party’s organisational renewal and reflects growing political engagement in one of Nigeria’s key states.
With calls to extend the exercise and strengthen data authenticity, the drive illustrates how digital tools are reshaping political mobilisation in advance of major national elections.
