ECOWAS recruitment opens for job seekers as the Economic Community of West African States has begun its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified citizens from Nigeria and other member states to apply for more than 30 positions spanning administrative, professional, and senior roles within the regional bloc’s institutions.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting economic integration, governance cooperation, and development across its member countries, which include Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, and others.
With its headquarters in Abuja, ECOWAS periodically conducts recruitment to fill vacancies across its various commissions, specialised agencies, and offices.
Such recruitment exercises support implementation of the bloc’s sectoral programmes, including policy, administration, security, social development, and economic planning.
The 2026 ECOWAS recruitment round builds on efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and align talent with programme delivery across strategic areas within the organisation.
According to the official notice published on ECOWAS’s website, the recruitment encompasses roles based in Abuja, Nigeria, as well as positions in other member countries.
Applicants are urged to submit their applications through the ECOWAS careers portal at ecowas.int/careers.
In Nigeria, available roles include positions such as Office Aide, Programme Assistant, Nurse, Protocol Assistant, Documentation and Archives Assistant, Office Manager (Bilingual Secretary), Junior Accountant (Disbursements), Principal Accountant, Legal and Administrative Officers, Political Adviser, Registrar, Head of Division (Library and Documentation), and Head of Hansard.
Outside Nigeria, roles include Administrative and Finance Officer in Addis Ababa, Principal Programme Officer (Sports Policy) in Liberia, Principal Programme Officer (Water Supply and Sanitation) in Conakry, as well as additional legal, administrative, and policy positions in Dakar, Senegal.
Applicants are required to meet age and qualification criteria specific to each position, with age limits varying by category.
Candidates under 35 may qualify for general services roles, while professional and senior roles carry higher age thresholds aligned with experience requirements.
ECOWAS has also emphasised that the recruitment process is free of charge and warned applicants against fraudulent offers or requests for payment as part of the application process.
The application window for ECOWAS recruitment remains open until April 30, 2026, offering applicants over three weeks to submit credentials and supporting documents through the official portal.
ECOWAS recruitment opens at a time when job opportunities across West African institutions are highly competitive, particularly for professionals seeking regional roles in governance, policy, and development sectors.
For Nigerians, the availability of roles in Abuja and other strategic locations presents opportunities to contribute directly to regional cooperation efforts and policy implementation across West African countries.
These jobs, spanning legal, financial, administrative, and technical areas, may support career growth and mobility beyond national boundaries.
For the broader West African workforce, ECOWAS recruitment aligns with regional integration goals by enabling talent from different member states to work collaboratively on initiatives that support economic development, security, and social progress.
The exercise also underscores the importance of transparent recruitment practices and the role of regional institutions in shaping employment opportunities across member countries.
