ICPC to Continue Probe of Farouk Ahmed Despite Dangote’s Withdrawal

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that it will continue its investigation into Farouk Ahmed, despite the recent withdrawal of support from billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote. The commission stated that the probe remains a matter of public interest and legal obligation.

In a statement released on Monday, the ICPC emphasized that external interventions or withdrawals do not influence its mandate. The commission said, “Our investigation into Farouk Ahmed will proceed in accordance with the law. The withdrawal of support from any individual, including Mr. Aliko Dangote, does not affect our commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability.”

The case involves allegations of financial misconduct and misuse of office during Ahmed’s tenure in public service. While Dangote had previously pledged to assist in Ahmed’s legal matters, the business magnate recently opted to retract his support, citing personal reasons.

ICPC officials reiterated that the investigation is independent and that due process will be strictly observed. The commission also called for cooperation from all relevant institutions to facilitate a thorough examination of the allegations.

Legal experts note that the continuation of the probe underscores ICPC’s institutional autonomy and reinforces Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework. It signals to the public that high-profile cases will be treated with impartiality, regardless of the involvement or withdrawal of influential figures.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to set a precedent for handling similar cases in the future, highlighting the ICPC’s role in promoting accountability in governance and public service.
