The Kwankwassiya movement and the New Nigeria Peoples Party have rejected reports alleging that the United States imposed sanctions on the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Both groups described the claim as false and politically motivated.
Reports circulating online claimed that the former Kano State governor was sanctioned by US authorities.
The reports did not provide official documentation or a statement from the US government to support the allegation.
Kwankwaso is a former governor of Kano State and a former Minister of Defence. He was also the presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general election.
In separate statements, leaders of the Kwankwassiya movement and the NNPP dismissed the report. They said there was no official communication from the US government confirming any sanctions against Kwankwaso.
The groups described the claim as blackmail and urged the public to disregard what they called unverified information.
They maintained that no credible institution had announced any sanction against the former governor.
Party representatives called on those spreading the report to provide verifiable evidence. They also urged supporters to remain calm.
The NNPP stated that it remains focused on its political activities and national development agenda. The party said it would not be distracted by what it termed unfounded allegations.
The denial comes amid heightened political activities ahead of future elections. Political actors have continued to respond to claims and counterclaims circulating in the public space.
The development highlights the role of verified information in political reporting. It also underscores the need for official confirmation when claims involve foreign governments or international sanctions.
