The Labour Party in Oyo State says it has no internal factions and remains united as it prepares for the 2027 general elections, the party’s state general secretary said in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Political parties across Nigeria have been organising and repositioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, which include the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly polls.
Internal unity and cohesion within parties can influence candidate selection, grassroots mobilisation and overall election preparedness.
The Labour Party has experienced disputes in some regions of the country related to leadership and congresses, but party officials in Oyo responded to claims about parallel structures or factions within the state chapter.
Mr Fatai Ojetunde, the Oyo State General Secretary of the Labour Party, told journalists in Ibadan that the party in the state does not have competing factions.
He said the members were focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections and working together to achieve success.
Ojetunde’s comments were made against the backdrop of political discussions about party organisation and cohesion as parties gear up for the coming national polls.
He did not provide details on any specific internal disputes or leadership challenges.
The Labour Party’s assertion of unity in Oyo State may be intended to reassure supporters and stakeholders that the party’s structures in the state are functional and aligned with common goals ahead of 2027.
Political observers generally note that organisational cohesion can influence a party’s ability to campaign effectively, manage resources and present candidates in competitive elections, though party dynamics vary across states and regions.
In recent months, other political parties have also addressed internal challenges and leadership questions as part of preparations for the electoral cycle.
