The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that 23 people were killed and 108 others injured following multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The attacks occurred on Monday evening at several locations across the city.
Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has been a focal point of security challenges linked to insurgent activities in northeastern Nigeria.
Public spaces such as markets and transport hubs are often high-risk areas due to heavy civilian presence.
Security agencies have continued surveillance and response operations across the state to address threats and protect residents from attacks targeting crowded locations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, the explosions occurred at about 7:24 p.m. and involved multiple coordinated incidents across the city.
The police confirmed that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers. Regrettably, a total of 23 persons lost their lives, while 108 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the police spokesperson said.
The explosions targeted crowded locations, including the Monday Market, the main gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover.
Police said emergency responders were deployed to the affected areas, while injured victims were taken to medical facilities for treatment.
Authorities also confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attacks.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in northeastern Nigeria, particularly in urban centres with high population movement.
Attacks on public locations can disrupt commercial activities, healthcare access and daily life for residents.
For businesses and informal traders operating in areas such as markets, such incidents may affect trading hours, supply chains and consumer confidence.
Public safety measures and emergency response systems remain critical in managing such situations.
