Alhaji Sani Danmasani, the National Vice Chairman for the Northwest of the NNPP, made the statement in a press release in Abuja aimed at correcting what the party described as misleading media reports that continue to identify Kwankwaso as its leader.
Danmasani said Kwankwaso and some of his associates, including Dr Ahmed Ajuji and Elder Buba Galadima, had previously been expelled from the party and therefore do not hold leadership roles within the NNPP.
He noted that Dr Boniface Aniebonam, the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, along with the Dr Agbo Major-led National Working Committee, are the recognised leadership of the party.
The chieftain expressed concern that continuing to refer to Kwankwaso as the party’s leader in media reports was contributing to confusion among political groups and complicating negotiations and alignment discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged journalists and political actors to refer instead to the officially recognised party leadership.
Danmasani also referenced court orders that, in the party’s view, supported its position on leadership, stressing that official judicial rulings had confirmed the expulsion of certain figures and restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from processing business with them pending judicial review.
He emphasised that INEC, as a regulatory body, does not determine party membership or leadership, and that internal party discipline and court directives should guide public understanding of NNPP leadership.
The clarification from Danmasani comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kano and nationally, as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
