NSCDC Deploys Over 2,000 Officers in Kwara Ahead of Eid el‑Fitr

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has deployed over 2,000 officers across the state to support security operations during the Eid el‑Fitr holiday period, the command announced on Tuesday.

Eid el‑Fitr is an annual Muslim festival marking the end of Ramadan, during which increased movement and social activities often occur in urban and rural communities across Nigeria.

The NSCDC is a federal paramilitary agency in Nigeria responsible for protecting critical national assets, community policing support and public safety operations.

Deployment of personnel ahead of major holidays is common practice among security agencies to ensure safety during periods of increased travel, market activity and public gatherings.

Kwara State is located in north‑central Nigeria, with key urban centres including Ilorin, the state capital, where celebrations and large community events are expected.

The State Commandant of NSCDC in Kwara, Mr. Aliyu Umar, said the personnel deployment aims to augment security arrangements ahead of the Eid el‑Fitr festivities.

He gave the figure of over 2,000 officers deployed to various locations across the state.

Umar said the special operation included patrols targeting markets, major highways, worship centres and other public spaces to ensure the safety of residents and worshippers.

He noted that the deployment is part of a coordinated effort with other security agencies operating in the state.

The NSCDC commandant encouraged residents to cooperate with security personnel and to report any suspicious activity as part of community safety efforts during the festive period.

Deployment of additional security personnel during major holidays is intended to enhance public confidence and reduce the risk of crime and disorder.

For residents, traders and travellers in Kwara State, the increased presence of NSCDC officers may contribute to safer movement and protection of property.

Coordination among security agencies can also support broader efforts to manage traffic, crowd control and emergency response situations during high‑travel periods.
