NSCDC Vehicle Kills Female Officer During Training Exercise in Lagos

A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) died on Friday after she was struck by a moving NSCDC vehicle during a training exercise at the Corps’ Tactical Training School in Lagos State, the agency’s command confirmed.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is a paramilitary agency responsible for protecting critical national assets and supporting internal security operations.

Training exercises at the Corps’ tactical school are designed to prepare officers for operational deployments and drills. The incident in Lagos occurred as part of scheduled training activities at the facility.

NSCDC’s Lagos State Command Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.

He identified the deceased officer as Assistant Superintendent of Corps (ASC) Ibikunle Abosede Olubunmi, who was hit by the vehicle during the exercise.

Maiwada said the accident occurred on Friday at the NSCDC Force Tactical Training School in Lagos. He stated that medical personnel at a Lagos hospital confirmed Olubunmi’s death after she was taken for treatment.

According to the statement, the officer’s remains were deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s morgue. The command’s spokesperson said an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

The death of a female NSCDC officer during a training activity highlights the risks associated with operational training for security personnel.

The Corps’ announcement that an investigation has begun suggests formal procedures are underway to determine how the incident occurred.

For the NSCDC, the incident may prompt review of safety protocols during training, given that accidents involving vehicles can pose risks to personnel when exercises involve moving equipment.

For colleagues, family members, and the officer community, the loss of an officer in the line of training duty may affect morale and prompt internal reflection on training safety standards.
