Tinubu Directs Military to Restore Peace in Kwara After Deadly Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Nigerian military to ensure that peace is restored to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly attack in the region, according to a presidential directive issued in Abuja.

The order follows a spate of violence that resulted in significant loss of lives and displacement of residents in rural communities.

The directive, signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, includes the deployment of an army battalion to the affected area and the appointment of a field commander to lead security operations.

The troops are expected to support efforts to stabilise the area and protect vulnerable communities.

Tinubu condemned the attack on villagers, describing the assault as “cowardly and beastly” in a statement issued by his office. He said the assault deliberately targeted defenceless civilians who resisted attempts by armed attackers to impose extremist ideology on their communities.

The Army deployment forms part of a broader security response tagged Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at checking further violence and safeguarding lives and property in the area.

The President also directed relevant federal and state agencies to collaborate in providing relief to residents affected by the attack and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.

Tinubu offered condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Kwara State government and people, and prayed for the repose of those killed in the incident.
