Nigeria Extradites Third Suspect in Sextortion, Murder Case to United States

Nigeria’s Federal Government has extradited 26-year-old Afeez Olatunji Adewale to the United States to face charges tied to a sexual extortion case that also involves the death of a young man in Pennsylvania, according to official statements.

Mr Adewale is the third Nigerian suspect sent to the United States in relation to the case, following the extradition of two other men in 2024. U.S. authorities allege the matter stems from a broader investigation into online sexual extortion schemes targeting individuals in the United States.

His transfer to U.S. custody follows his arrest in Nigeria on August 17, 2023, as part of a collaborative operation involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Nigerian law enforcement.

The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, David Metcalf, confirmed Mr Adewale’s extradition on Friday, February 13, 2026, with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs and the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja.

The charges in the U.S. against Mr Adewale include wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lynne A. Sitarski in federal court in Philadelphia following his arrival.

Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were involved in facilitating the extradition.

Mr Adewale’s co-defendants, Imoleayo Samuel Aina (also known as “Alice Dave”) and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, were previously extradited in August 2024.

In U.S. court proceedings, Mr Abiodun was sentenced in June 2025 to five years in prison for money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud.

Mr Aina received a six-year sentence in October 2025 after pleading guilty to multiple offences, including cyberstalking and interstate threat to injure reputation.

The case was investigated by the FBI Philadelphia’s Fort Washington Resident Agency and the Abington Township Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Brown.

The extradition of Mr Adewale underscores continued international cooperation between Nigerian authorities and U.S. law enforcement in combating cross-border cyber-enabled crimes.

It follows the transfer and prosecution of other suspects linked to the same case.

Sending a third suspect to face federal charges in the United States reflects the scope of legal actions being pursued in matters involving alleged sexual extortion and associated offences.
