APGA Candidate in AMAC Accepts APC Victory After FCT Council Polls

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has accepted the victory declared for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, the candidate said in a statement after results were released.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the FCT Area Council polls on February 21, 2026, with results collated and announced in the days that followed.

The AMAC chairmanship contest was one of six area council leadership elections in the FCT, which includes Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abaji councils.

The APC was declared the winner in the AMAC chairmanship race, leading to reactions from opposing candidates, including the APGA contender.

In a post-poll statement on Sunday, the APGA candidate said he had reviewed the INEC-declared results and accepted the outcome of the election in AMAC.

He said the declaration by the electoral commission was final and confirmed his decision to acknowledge the result.

He congratulated the APC candidate on the declared victory, noting that the official announcement by INEC must be respected as part of the electoral process.

The APGA candidate’s acceptance follows official results published by INEC, in which the APC candidate secured the highest number of votes in the AMAC chairmanship contest.

The acceptance of the declared result by an opposition candidate may support orderly transition and reduce post-poll tensions in the Abuja Municipal Area Council. It reflects the conclusion of electoral processes in AMAC as announced by INEC.

For election stakeholders and voters, the acknowledgement of results by contestant’s forms part of the formal closing procedures of the local polls in the FCT.
