The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has praised Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, describing the operation as a testament to professionalism, coordination and dedication among the country’s security forces.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party commended the intelligence-driven, multi-agency mission that secured the freedom of the victims after they spent more than 56 days in captivity.
The party said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts, while urging authorities to sustain such collaboration in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
According to the SDP, the victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esiele, and LA Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
While describing the incident as a reminder of the country’s persistent insecurity, the party noted that the successful rescue highlighted what could be achieved through determined leadership, effective intelligence gathering and collaboration among security agencies.
The SDP also paid tribute to 28-year-old Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, who lost his life during the rescue operation, describing his sacrifice as a symbol of courage and patriotism.
“The Party salutes the courage and sacrifice of the fallen officer for restoring joy to the affected families. His service and sacrifice will be remembered,” the statement said.
Beyond celebrating the rescue, the opposition party called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to tackle the underlying socio-economic issues contributing to insecurity across the country.
It identified poverty, hunger and social injustice as major drivers of criminal activities and urged authorities to pursue policies capable of improving citizens’ welfare while strengthening national security.
The SDP expressed optimism that Nigeria’s democratic system would increasingly deliver improved security, better protection of lives and property, and sustainable national development through deliberate investment in both security operations and socio-economic reforms.
