The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has intensified its grassroots mobilisation in Enugu State, taking its campaign to Ezeagu Local Government Area ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government elections. The campaign team, led by the Enugu State Chairman of the party, Dr Johnpaul Anih, was received by party leaders, candidates, supporters and residents at Community Secondary School, Obunofia Ndiuno.
Anih, who was accompanied by members of the State Working Committee and other party chieftains, said the NDC was committed to providing accountable and people-focused leadership at the grassroots. He said the party’s candidates were selected based on their competence, integrity, capacity and commitment to community development.
The state chairman urged Ezeagu residents to support the NDC during the September 26 council poll, promising that an administration led by the party would place the welfare and development of residents at the centre of governance.
Anih also called on the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, and security agencies to guarantee equal conditions for all political parties participating in the election. He urged the relevant authorities to ensure that the poll was free, fair, transparent and credible.
The NDC chairman expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, saying its growing acceptance across Ezeagu and other parts of Enugu indicated increasing demand for an alternative political platform. However, he warned against attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
Anih said the party would resist electoral malpractice and intimidation across Ezeagu’s 20 electoral wards. He consequently urged NDC supporters and voters to remain peaceful and vigilant while taking steps to protect their votes throughout the election.
The NDC Chairman in Ezeagu, Hon. Nonso Ukwuani, thanked the state leadership for taking the campaign to the local government. Ukwuani described the leadership provided by the Johnpaul Anih-led State Working Committee as a boost to the party’s grassroots activities.
He said the party’s candidates were prepared to provide responsive leadership and appealed to residents to vote for the NDC while remaining vigilant on election day. The party’s chairmanship candidate for Ezeagu, Hon. Robert Ezinwa, also expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him by the party leadership and members.
Ezinwa pledged that, if elected, his administration would implement a broad development programme covering education, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, healthcare and other critical areas. He promised to reform the local education system, strengthen support for farmers, expand opportunities for young people and women, and improve access to quality healthcare.
Other NDC chieftains, including Hon. Maurice Ebue and Hon. Ann Okeke, urged Ezeagu residents to support candidates they described as capable of delivering meaningful development. Ebue reaffirmed the party’s commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance.
He called on party members to take the campaign message to communities, wards and polling units across Ezeagu. He also urged voters to turn out peacefully on election day, exercise their franchise and protect their votes. The campaign ended with the formal presentation of Ezinwa, his running mate Barr. Ifeanyi Okafor, and the party’s 20 councilorship candidates to the gathering.
