The Presidency has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 election remains valid, saying only necessary adjustments may be made to accommodate additional party members and political stakeholders.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the clarification on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
Dare was responding to reports that the APC had withdrawn its campaign council list following controversy over the inclusion and exclusion of some party leaders and political figures.
He maintained that the list had not been withdrawn, explaining that the party was yet to establish all the subcommittees that would form part of the campaign structure.
“As it is with every other list, there’s a room for subcommittees. Those subcommittees have not been formed, and so many other names will come into that subcommittee,” Dare said.
According to him, the existing list remains in force but could be modified as the campaign structure develops.
“So that list has not been withdrawn. The APC has issued a statement to that effect yesterday, that list stands. But of course, there will be adjustments. The list is not cast in stone, just like every other list.”
The clarification followed an earlier statement by the APC on Tuesday rejecting reports that its 2027 presidential campaign council list had been withdrawn.
The council list, unveiled over the weekend, named President Tinubu as chairman, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were designated vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdul’aziz Yari, was named Director-General, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma designated secretary.
When asked whether the campaign council list was open to review, Dare rejected the description, insisting that any changes would amount only to adjustments.
“Not a review, just adjustments where necessary,” he said.
He explained that the distinction was important because the expected changes would not involve a complete restructuring of the council.
Pressed further on whether the list was effectively being reconsidered, the presidential aide maintained that the changes being contemplated should not be interpreted as a wholesale review.
“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale,” Dare said.
Dare explained that the yet-to-be-established subcommittees would create additional positions through which more APC members and political stakeholders could participate in the campaign organisation.
The development comes as the ruling party continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the composition of its campaign structure attracting considerable political attention.
