Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has described the APC bye-election wins in four of five recently contested constituencies as significant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, made the assessment in a statement posted on his social media account while commenting on the outcome of the elections.
According to the minister, the All Progressives Congress won four of the five Federal and State Assembly seats contested across the North-West, North-East and South-South regions.
Keyamo listed Kano in the North-West, Bauchi and Gombe in the North-East, and Delta State in the South-South among the areas where the APC secured victories.
The party, however, lost one State Assembly constituency in Bauchi State to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.
The minister said the geographical spread of the APC’s victories was “very significant” in the context of the 2027 elections.
He linked the outcome to the constitutional requirement governing presidential elections, particularly the provision requiring a presidential candidate to secure at least 25 per cent of votes in two-thirds of Nigeria’s states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Keyamo, the constitutional provision reflects Nigeria’s diverse political and geographical composition.
He said he would defer a more detailed assessment of the implications of the bye-election results for presidential elections until after the 2027 poll. The minister also referred to the recent electoral results as a “significant factor” in presidential contests.
While discussing the future implications of the results, Keyamo referred to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s expected participation in the 2027 presidential election.

A fuller analysis of this significant factor in Presidential elections will follow on January 19th or 20th, 2027 when PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU is declared winner of the Presidential election by the power of the people of Nigeria and the usual wailings begin,” he said.

The APC bye-election wins came from contests held across three geopolitical regions, while the APM recorded the remaining victory in Bauchi State.
