Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he would be difficult to defeat in any free and fair election in Nigeria, while insisting that he has no immediate plans to venture into politics because of concerns over the country’s electoral system.
The award-winning singer made the remarks during a recent livestream with content creator Carter Efe after being asked whether he could one day contest for public office.
Responding to the question, Davido said his priority remains his music career, explaining that he has little interest in participating in an electoral process he believes lacks transparency.
The singer argued that he would only consider seeking public office when elections in Nigeria become more credible and transparent. Speaking partly in Pidgin English, Davido expressed frustration over allegations of manipulated election results, saying he had no intention of getting involved under the current system.
“Let me just focus on my music until there is transparency, then I can go ahead and contest for elective positions,” he said.
Despite distancing himself from politics for now, Davido expressed strong confidence in his popularity among Nigerians. According to him, no political opponent would be able to defeat him in a genuinely free and fair contest. The Afrobeats star went as far as suggesting that he could even emerge victorious in a presidential election if the electoral process was credible.
“Nobody can beat me in any election, never! In a free and fair election, I can win presidential election in Nigeria,” he declared.
However, he maintained that concerns about the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system remain the biggest obstacle to any future political ambition.
Davido also revealed that he would be closely monitoring the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. Without elaborating further, he said he was eager to see how the election would be conducted, adding that his family and supporters would be paying close attention to developments. The comments come as political interest in Osun continues to build ahead of the governorship poll.
Although politics has long been associated with the Adeleke family, Davido reiterated that his immediate focus is on expanding his music career.
He maintained that any consideration of public office would depend on future improvements in Nigeria’s electoral process, stressing that transparency would be a key condition before pursuing any political ambition. For now, the Afrobeats star says his energy remains firmly directed at music while he watches developments in the country’s political landscape from the sidelines.
