UDENU, ENUGU STATE – A wave of enthusiasm swept across Udenu Local Government Area on Tuesday as thousands of residents from across Enugu North Senatorial Zone turned out to welcome Rt. Hon. Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The gathering, described by many observers as one of the largest political receptions witnessed in recent times within the zone, reflected what supporters called the genuine mood and aspirations of the people ahead of the next governorship contest.
From early morning, major roads leading into the venue witnessed a steady influx of supporters, community leaders, women groups, youths, traders, and party faithful who converged to receive the PDP standard-bearer. Chants of solidarity, songs of hope, and displays of party colours transformed the event into a celebration of political renewal.
For many residents, the turnout was more than a routine political gathering. It was a public expression of confidence in a leadership vision they believe can usher in a new chapter for Enugu State.
Several attendees said the reception demonstrated the growing acceptance of Nnaji’s candidacy across the senatorial zone and the belief that his emergence presents an opportunity for a fresh approach to governance, economic development, and public service delivery.
The atmosphere became even more electric as party leaders introduced Hon. Nestor Ezeme, the PDP candidate for the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election. The crowd responded with loud cheers and assurances of support, expressing confidence in his chances at the polls.
Political stakeholders at the event noted that the overwhelming reception signaled a strong grassroots mobilisation effort and underscored the strategic importance of Enugu North in shaping the political direction of the state ahead of 2027.
For many supporters, the event represented a sense of optimism and relief that the state may be approaching a new political era. Conversations among attendees centred on expectations for inclusive governance, economic opportunities for young people, improved infrastructure, and policies capable of addressing the everyday concerns of ordinary citizens.
As the gathering concluded, the message from the crowd remained consistent: the people are eager to play an active role in determining the future of Enugu State and believe that the momentum currently building around the PDP candidate reflects a broader desire for responsive and people-focused leadership.
With the 2027 governorship election still ahead, Tuesday’s massive reception in Udenu may well be remembered as one of the earliest and clearest demonstrations of grassroots enthusiasm in support of Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji’s bid to lead Enugu State.
