The Federal Government will commence repairs on the Kara-Berger Bridge on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The two-week project is expected to run until September 22.
Authorities have consequently warned motorists and commuters to expect delays along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The rehabilitation was earlier scheduled to begin in August. However, the Federal Government suspended the project to review traffic arrangements.
The suspension followed public concerns over the short notice given to road users.
The review was also intended to ensure better traffic management during the work.
The current project was directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.
It will involve replacing deteriorating expansion joints on the bridge. According to the authorities, the intervention is intended to improve road safety.
It will also strengthen the structure and support smoother traffic movement. The Kara-Berger corridor is one of the busiest routes connecting Lagos and Ogun.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, said motorists should prepare for temporary lane restrictions.
The restrictions could particularly affect traffic during peak commuting periods. TRACE said it would work with relevant agencies throughout the rehabilitation.
The multi-agency operation will include the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, will also participate.
The Nigeria Police Force is expected to support the traffic-control operation.
TRACE Acting Commander, Mr A. Ojerinde, urged motorists to plan their journeys.
He advised commuters to leave home earlier than usual. Ojerinde also appealed for patience and discipline during the restrictions.
“Leave earlier than usual to accommodate expected travel delays.”
He further assured motorists that security and traffic agencies would work to limit disruption.
The agencies will also focus on keeping traffic moving safely.
The authorities said traffic updates would continue throughout the project.
TRACE appealed to road users to cooperate with traffic officials.
It also urged motorists to obey all applicable traffic regulations. The Kara Bridge repairs are expected to last two weeks.
Motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have therefore been advised to make alternative arrangements where necessary. The agencies said the ultimate objective is to complete the rehabilitation safely.
They also expressed appreciation for the understanding of road users during the temporary restrictions.
