Digital financial services company, OPay, has dismissed viral reports claiming that it plans to suspend operations from Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The report, which circulated widely across social media, alleged that the fintech would embark on an indefinite shutdown, halting transactions and account-related services.
It also advised OPay customers to withdraw their funds ahead of the purported closure, triggering concerns among some users.
However, OPay has described the information as false and malicious, assuring customers that its operations remain fully active.
In a statement shared on social media on Sunday, the fintech said there was no plan to suspend its services in September.
“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!” the company said.
The company also urged customers to be wary of unofficial messages and other unverified information circulating online.
According to OPay, customers can identify authentic communications by checking whether they originate from the company’s verified platforms.
“True OPay users know how to identify our official communications. Take a closer look at the viral post, and you’ll spot the red flags,” it said.
The fintech further advised members of the public to verify claims before sharing them, particularly when such information relates to financial accounts or funds.
“Always verify before you share. Filter the noise!” the company added.
OPay also encouraged its customers to rely on its verified social media pages for accurate information concerning its services and operations.
“Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates,” the company stated.
The clarification comes amid growing concern over false information circulated through social media, with OPay urging customers to disregard the shutdown claim and continue relying on its official communication channels for updates.
