The Kogi State Government has ordered the closure of all primary and secondary schools across the state for a period of two weeks, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi confirmed in a directive to its members.
The temporary shutdown takes effect immediately, with schools scheduled to resume on February 16, 2026, according to the NAPPS notice.
In a message to private school proprietors, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, Chairman of NAPPS in Kogi, said the state government decided to advance the mid-term break into an emergency break, requiring all schools both public and private to remain closed until the new resumption date.
Another communication sent to parents by a school platform confirmed that the government directed schools to proceed on an emergency break from February 4, 2026, with the resumption date to be announced later. Parents were advised to encourage students to study at home during the closure period.
The Public Relations Officer for the Kogi State Ministry of Education, Solomon Musa, verified the closure of the schools but declined to provide a reason for the emergency shutdown when contacted.
