The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gombe State has denied allegations that the party is involved in producing fake Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, membership cards ahead of the opposition party’s fresh governorship primary.
The APC said it had no interest in the internal affairs of the PDP and was focused on governing Gombe State and implementing its development programmes.
The party stated this in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Murtala Usman Wuro Tale, following allegations by the PDP.
Wuro Tale dismissed the claim that about 20,000 fake membership cards were being produced as baseless, suggesting that the allegation was aimed at diverting attention from the PDP’s internal challenges.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the APC-led administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has absolutely no business with the internal affairs, membership administration or governorship primary of the PDP,” he said.
“The conduct of the PDP’s primary is strictly an internal responsibility of the party and its relevant organs.”
According to the APC spokesman, the PDP governorship primary remained an internal affair of the opposition party.
He said the APC would neither organise the exercise nor participate in the disputes surrounding it, adding that the party would not accept responsibility for decisions made by the PDP.
Wuro Tale urged the PDP leadership to concentrate on resolving its disagreements and conducting a fresh governorship primary in line with the court’s directive, its constitution and applicable electoral requirements.
He also challenged the PDP to explain how it intended to address the issues arising from the legal challenge to its earlier governorship primary rather than shifting attention to the APC.
The APC recalled that the PDP’s May 2026 governorship primary was challenged in court, eventually leading to a Federal High Court judgment in Gombe on September 24, 2026.
According to the APC, the court nullified the process that produced Professor Isa Ali Pantami as the PDP governorship candidate and ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary in accordance with its guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
Following the judgment, the PDP fixed Tuesday, September 29, for the new governorship primary.
Against this background, Wuro Tale called on the opposition party to focus on complying with the court order and resolving the issues surrounding its internal electoral process.
The APC spokesman said that if the PDP had evidence that individuals or groups were producing fraudulent membership cards or attempting to interfere with its internal electoral process, it should submit such evidence to the appropriate law-enforcement or regulatory agencies.
“Press statements and political allegations cannot substitute for evidence,” he said.
The APC also called on political parties in Gombe to conduct their activities within the law and engage voters on governance, policies and development.
“The people of Gombe State deserve responsible political engagement based on facts, evidence, policies and issues that directly affect their lives,” the statement added.
The ruling party maintained that it would remain focused on governance and the development of Gombe State, rather than becoming involved in the internal affairs of another political party.
