Governor Bala Mohammed has urged newly inducted personnel of the Forest Guard Corps to uphold professionalism, respect human rights, and maintain discipline while carrying out their security responsibilities across Bauchi State.
The governor delivered the message during the passing-out parade of 2,187 Forest Guards graduands at the Police Training School in Yelwa, Bauchi Local Government Area. The ceremony marked a significant step in the state’s efforts to strengthen community-based security structures amid growing concerns over insecurity affecting several parts of northern Nigeria.
Representing the governor at the event, Deputy Governor Rt Honourable Auwal Jatau welcomed representatives of security agencies and stakeholders who attended the ceremony. He emphasised the importance of the programme and encouraged the newly trained personnel to serve as worthy ambassadors of the state.
According to the governor, the establishment and expansion of the Forest Guard Corps demonstrate Bauchi State’s commitment to peace-building, public safety, and responsible security management. He noted that the initiative is built on the values of integrity, discipline, and accountability.
The governor further charged the graduands to strictly observe established rules of engagement while performing their duties. He stressed that professionalism must remain central to their operations to ensure that the objectives behind the creation of the security outfit are achieved.
He also warned against unlawful conduct, stating that the state government would not tolerate any actions that violate the rights of citizens or undermine public trust. Beyond security responsibilities, the personnel were encouraged to support environmental sustainability efforts and contribute to protecting forest resources across the state.
The induction comes at a time when many state governments are exploring local security partnerships to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies. Such initiatives are increasingly viewed as important tools for improving intelligence gathering, monitoring remote communities, and addressing emerging security threats.
Speaking at the event, Commander General of the Bauchi State Vigilante and Youth Empowerment Agency, Umar Shayi, commended Governor Mohammed for investing in local security development. He described the governor’s support for community-based security initiatives as a demonstration of commitment to ensuring safety throughout the state.
Shayi urged members of the newly graduated Forest Guard Corps to remain dedicated and committed to their responsibilities. He noted that public confidence in the initiative would depend largely on the conduct, discipline, and effectiveness of the personnel in the field.
For residents, businesses, and communities across Bauchi State, the expansion of the Forest Guard Corps represents a broader effort to improve security coordination and promote safer environments for economic and social activities.
