The Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has reaffirmed its determination to produce the next Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland.
The family also warned against alleged efforts to prevent it from exercising what it described as its lawful turn in the succession process.
The position was made known after an enlarged meeting of princes and princesses at Ile Nla (Agunsebi), Ijebu-Ode.
The meeting focused on the delayed process for selecting a successor to the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
It was co-chaired by Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, Chairman and Head of the ruling house; Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, Deputy Chairman; and Prof. Fassy Yusuf, Vice Chairman.
Members from different units of the family attended the meeting.
The leadership briefed them on developments surrounding the succession process. They were also informed about legal measures being pursued over the delay.
At the conclusion, members endorsed earlier decisions taken by the leadership. They also expressed confidence in its handling of the succession process.
Speaking after the meeting, Owoyemi said the gathering was necessary to update members.
The former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria said the leadership was also explaining measures taken to protect the family’s interests.
He said the turnout demonstrated that the Fusengbuwa ruling house remained united.
“The large attendance is an attestation of unity. The house is united.”
Owoyemi further alleged that some individuals wanted to undermine the ruling house’s claim to the throne.
“Our enemies are those who want to spoil things so that they will come back to say our ruling house cannot produce the next Awujale again.”
The ruling house had previously approached the High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode.
It is seeking orders compelling the completion of the process for selecting the next Awujale and paramount ruler.
The legal action followed prolonged delays in the succession process. The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025.
This followed the death of Oba Adetona at the age of 91. The late monarch had spent 65 years on the throne.
The Ogun State Government halted the succession process in January 2026.
The government cited petitions received from security agencies and other stakeholders. This followed an earlier suspension in December 2025.
That earlier decision was attributed to what the government described as procedural concerns.
With the throne still vacant, the Fusengbuwa ruling house has maintained that it should be allowed to exercise its turn.
The family says its unity remains intact as efforts continue to resolve the stalled succession process.
