TCN Announces Planned Katampe Power Outage for Substation Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled Katampe power outage to allow engineers carry out preventive maintenance at the Katampe 132/33 KiloVolt (kV) Transmission Substation in Abuja. The maintenance exercise is expected to take place on Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., during which electricity supply to several parts of the Federal Capital Territory will be temporarily affected.

In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, said the planned exercise will enable the company’s technical team to conduct preventive maintenance on the 100 megavolt ampere (MVA) 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), its auxiliary equipment and associated switchgear at the substation. According to her, the maintenance is part of routine efforts to ensure the reliability and efficient operation of the nation’s transmission infrastructure.

TCN explained that the scheduled Katampe power outage will prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from receiving bulk electricity supply from the transmission substation during the maintenance period.

As a result, customers in the following locations are expected to experience temporary electricity disruption: Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market, Idu-Karmo, Surrounding communities. Electricity supply is expected to be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.

Mrs. Mbah expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause residents and businesses in the affected areas. She noted that regular maintenance remains essential for sustaining the efficiency, safety and long-term performance of critical power transmission equipment.

According to the company, preventive servicing helps reduce the likelihood of unexpected equipment failures and improves the overall reliability of electricity supply. The Katampe power outage is therefore a planned operational measure aimed at maintaining stable power transmission services across Abuja and surrounding communities.
