Labour Party access code has been received from the Independent National Electoral Commission, clearing the way for the party to upload the names and particulars of its candidates for the 2027 general election. The confirmation was given on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, during a telephone interview in Abuja.
Asogwa disclosed that the electoral commission released the access code on Monday, adding that the information had been confirmed by the party’s national chairman.
He said: “yes, the codes were released to us yesterday. I received confirmation from our national chairman.”
The development marks a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, as the Labour Party access code is required to upload candidates onto INEC’s nomination portal.
As of Sunday, several political parties, including the Labour Party, had not confirmed receiving their access codes from the electoral commission. Some parties involved in internal leadership disputes had also expressed concerns that the codes could be accessed or used by unauthorised individuals, potentially affecting their candidate nomination processes.
According to available information, the Independent National Electoral Commission adopted a cautious approach before issuing the codes. The commission was said to have followed due process, including taking into account relevant judicial pronouncements before releasing access credentials to political parties.
The Labour Party access code confirmation comes amid ongoing preparations by political parties for candidate nominations ahead of the 2027 general election. INEC had not issued an official statement on the latest development as of the time of reporting.
