Heightened security measures have been introduced around Pan-Atlantic University in Lekki after a viral video showing two masked individuals near the institution raised public concern. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has assured students, staff and parents that security agencies are actively monitoring the area and taking steps to prevent any threat to public safety.
The reassurance came following an on-the-spot security assessment conducted by the Lagos State Police Command at the university. The inspection was prompted by widespread circulation of a video allegedly showing two masked persons emerging from a forested area adjoining the institution. The visit formed part of efforts by security authorities to evaluate the situation, strengthen surveillance and calm fears among members of the university community.
During the assessment, CP Jimoh met with the management of Pan-Atlantic University and reviewed existing security arrangements within and around the campus. He emphasized the need for continuous improvements to the institution’s security architecture, urging management to adopt additional measures capable of preventing security breaches and addressing emerging threats.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the Commissioner highlighted the importance of strengthening perimeter protection, improving access control systems and maintaining close cooperation with relevant security agencies. He also advised against actions that could undermine existing security structures or create vulnerabilities within the institution.
As part of the response, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, has deployed surveillance drones to support law enforcement operations around the university and surrounding communities.
The drones are expected to improve aerial monitoring, intelligence gathering and crime-prevention efforts across the Lekki axis. Security officials believe the technology will enhance real-time surveillance capabilities and provide additional support for ongoing policing operations in the area.
CP Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He assured students, staff, parents and university management that the police remain prepared to respond swiftly to any security concerns and maintain a safe environment for learning and other legitimate activities. The Commissioner further encouraged the institution to sustain collaboration with security agencies and remain vigilant in identifying and reporting suspicious movements.
“The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Lagos State,” he stated.
The police urged residents and members of the university community to support security efforts by providing credible and timely information to law enforcement agencies. Authorities also encouraged the public to make use of available emergency lines to report suspicious activities and security-related incidents.
The security assessment and deployment of surveillance drones reflect efforts by the Lagos State Government and security agencies to address public concerns and strengthen protection around Pan-Atlantic University. Officials say continued vigilance, improved surveillance and cooperation from the public remain critical to maintaining safety and security across the area.
